I am thinking of buying a new rifle. Cabela's has Remington 700 sps on sale for $370.00. Is this a good price and is this a good gun? I am thinking about a .270 or .300 win mag. I already have a 30-06 and a .338. It's hard to seperate wants and needs.

It sounds like a decent price to me. They look nice and I am sure they shoot well. I prefer .280 to .270 - both are good though. If I had a .30-06 and .338, I'd want a .25-06 over all the above. Anything I think I would want the .300 Mag for (over the 06), I would feel better yet using the .338!

I think I'd want to be a little more diverse. there's nothing that the 270 or 300 mag will do that's not covered with the guns you already have. I don't know what our planning on hunting, but I'd expand my caliber selection to cover varminting or less expensive target shooting.

If I were you I'd consider something in the 17 thru 224 calibers or perhaps a very accurate 243 or 257 Roberts as dual purpose varmint/deer cartridges.

Out here in the west we have pretty good squirrel and coyote hunting, throw in bobcats, badgers, crows and just plain fun target shooting and a low recoiling rifle that is inexpensive to load for and shoot makes a lot of sense. It also give you a rifle to practice with that doe not have the recoil of a full fledged deer/elk rifle.

Sit down pixel and think about your shooting needs, it may help you define exactly what type/caliber rifle you really need.

My latest is a CZ 527 Varmit in 204 Ruger. Squrrils, crows and coyotes beware.

I'm with Bob on this one, you already have that middle ground already easily filled. I'd either go quite a bit smaller or much larger. Or, you could think about going much more specialized.
