I shoot a savage 22 mag synthetic with a 2x7 leupold. The gun is very lite and accurate. I take it with me for rabbits, what a rush trying to hit one full speed. If im with 2 or 3 guys, im the sitter and thier the drivers.

When I was stationed in Alaska several of us used to go rabbit hunting out of Anchorage. Up there the rabbits run in seven year cycles and when their at the top of the cycle there are lots of them. We all used to have some type of semi-auto 22 rifle (mine was a ruger 10-22) and sometimes you'd get half a pickup load on a good morning. That was so much fun and I ate rabbit til I was almost sick of it.

On the Javelina hunts we do in west Texas, after we finish with our evening meal, we will load up in one of the pickups, and put 2 or 3 people in the bed, sitting on hay bales, and drive around the two irrigated Alfalfa patches and shoot jackrabbits with 22's, using a spotlight to see the things. Some of our clients have more fun doing that then hunting the Javelinas.

faucettb, there is still alot of rabbit. they are again in there "cycle" and when I need or require a change in meat I take out my 4" 629 and get me one or two-alot of fun. a head or neck shot does the trick.

good practice with a handgun.
