I've read several posts lately about Ruger SA's that cannot be made to shoot low enough by lowering the rear sight. Both of my handguns are Ruger SA's, one is a .44 SBH with a 5.5 inch barrel and the other is a Single-Six also with a 5.5 inch barrel (both NM). Should I spend the money to have a higher front blade installed or should I have my brain cell take this into account and aim accordingly? Maybe I'm trying for too much accuracy for a handgun? Is this a common problem with Rugers? Other makes? I am working at 25 yards off of a bench rest. Thanks in advance fellas.

PS I LOVE these Ruger SA's

What kind of groups are you seeing David?

Off the bench I'm getting about 5 inch groups with Rem .22 hollow points. Those groups are about 4 inches high with the rear sight set all the way down. The .44 is getting 3-4 inch groups about 4 inches high with 300 g Hornaday JHP/XTP.

The single six in .22 should adjust and shoot little groups at 25 yds. There should be plenty of adjustment there. Mine never would shoot 22 mag well. You may want to get a lower velocity bullet or some of the cci subsonics to try.
You will be able to bring down your groups with the 44 by using a 6 oclock hold on the blake ring. Also the lighter bullets will bring the point of impact down. those 300 gr are a handful in the SBH. I do best with a 240 gr at <1000 fps. I target shoot with a 240 at 750 fps.

Please excuse me, I'm pretty new at this but what is a " 6 oclock hold on the blake ring?"

A typo. I was speaking of the black ring on a standard 25 yd pistol target. I guess it is about a 4 inch circle. You put the top of the front sight on the bottom of that ring so the black circle looks like it is sitting on top og the front sight. That should put you in the center of the target. I think the ruger handbook will show you that sight picture for the adjustable sight models.

I don't know about the Single Six, but I do know that every stock Super Blackhawk I've encountered will shoot high with full-power 300 gr. loads. Since I have no practical use for 300 gr. bullets, I stick with the standard 240 gr. loads, and also have a 260 gr. load that is quite accurate and shoots to POA.
I have had several Ruger S/A's and never had a problem getting them sighted in. If you want to get together and do some shooting, let me know. I am in Bremerton and we could meet. I will let you play with my Accusport Bisley 45 Colt.
