View Full Version : Oversize chambers in Ruger Redhawk?
I have read that the chambers in Ruger Blackhawk ,45 Colt are usually considerably oversized. Is the same true for the Redhawk in .45 Colt?
Also, really how big a problem are the chambers in the Blackhawk?
Thanks, Al

Go here if you want this info as it's been discussed numerous times and they have the fix for it if it's a problem that you have! Some folks have had this problem- all the one's I've owned were fine Blackhawk-SRH. As with any firearm some are great some are not! As I'm sure S&W and such have made bad guns ! :D

Oversized is a relative term.... the specs on the .45 Colt are generous, to say the least, not surprising that it's been around since black powder days.
Mine all work fine and I can't attribute any particular problems to the factory chamber specs.
Strangely enough the new production Blackhawks have large chambers, but often way undersized throats. Now that's a more serious problem, but easily corrected.
Some people go to a lot of trouble to only size the necks of .45 Colt cases to help align them in the chambers, but it does seem to be a lot of trouble for what is surely minimal gain.
Brass is cheap and even if the large chambers cause it to wear out faster, so what. At least you won't be hunting for it in the grass like the guys shooting autos.
Don't know about the Redhawks.
