Okay maybe toy is not the right word but it will be fun to play with.I have been going back and forth on wether to get another 454(to go with my 454 BFR)or to get another 44 magnum and i went with a Ruger SRH in 44 mag and i am anxious to work up some accurate loads for it.I have owned a Redhawk ,S&W and T/C contender in 44 mag and have always wanted a SRH and today seemed like as good a time as any.I looked at the SRH 454 but i just cant get past that gray finish that to me gives it a less than handsome appearance. My favorite load in most of my previous 44 mags has been(24 grains 296/cci 350 primer/Hornady 240 gr XTP in remington cases.I have not searched but this load should give me good results as it has in the past but....any pet loads for this particular 44 would be appreciated.Thanks.

Nice purchase. Like you, I think that Target Grey color is too much. What kind of finish is that stuff? Good luck with the new toy.

For target shooting I like 8 gr. of WW231 behind a 240 gr. lead SWC bullet. Comes out around 950 - 980 fps, and shoots very accurately with modest recoil.

Don't apologize for using the word "toy". We all understand the context in which you used the word. In fact, probably everyone of us has had the same feeling about a new gun. Enjoy!

That 240 gr Hornady load is what I use for an accuracy standard. If it doesnt shoot well then I think theres a problem with the gun.

I don't know what the Target grey is, but I can tell you it is very durable. Ugly is only in the eye of the beholder. I like my SRH in 454. I think having double the Muzzle Energy of the 44 Magnum is alright in my book. Doing some research, it is still more ME than the 480 Ruger even. Only two top it, 475 Linbaugh and the 500 S&W. Les
