I had one, 6" .357 Magnum. Carried it as a duty weapon for four years. The only failure was that the hammer spur broke off one night, just popped off when I snapped the front break holster closed. Had the action smoothed and timed by famous old San Francisco gunsmith F. Bob Chow. That revolver was very accurate and it won several police matches. They weren't quite as smooth as the Python, but they are better double action shooters than any Ruger (I could keep all the shots in the black at 25 yards rapid fire). The Ruger is stronger. The Smith & Wesson is about the same except that the cylinder revolves the opposite direction, and the trigger tension builds differently in double action. Something only a competitive revolver shooter would worry about, but they are obsolete anyway. You could hunt small deer reliably, but really it's up to you, if you are a really good shot the .357 Magnum becomes the limiting factor. Deer and small pigs, varmints and of course the criminally inclined two legged varmint. I not sure about replacement parts, they may be getting scarce, but it's something you can check. It's a keeper and a fine practical revolver.

i had one years ago when i had my gun shop. went to range one day to check it and a taurus(also took along my 686) wow was thing smooth and accurate wished i would have never sold it. in relation to the others it was by far the cream of the bunch. i have heard the timing mechanism can be delicate. but otherwise it can be used for anything the others can be
