What do you guys recommend for cleaning my Kimber 1911 stainless steel Gold Match II? I had a bad experience With Hoppes #9 on my Beretta. As a matter of fact Beretta's FAQ section has a warning about Hoppes #9 on any stainless surface. The Kimber I have has two different finishes. The sides of the slide, for example are polished, but the top of the slide is unpolished steel. What do you guys recommend for cleaning the frame and the barrel of stainless steel guns, and while we're on the topic, nickel plating?

I use Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish on my Nickle Colt. It was recommended on another forum. Did a great job of cleaning up a revolver that had been stored for a long time. Haven't tried it on stainless, but intend to on my GP100. You can find it at most auto parts stores and some Wal-Marts. Very easy to use.

Flitz works nicely on stainless and nickle guns. Dont use it on case hardened surfaces as it will takes certain types right off. Flitz will clean the end of revolver cylinders to almost look like new. Hoppes #9 will remove nickle plate it left on the surface. It shouldnt hurt a stainless gun.

Strange. I've used Hoppes No. 9 and W-D40 on dozens of stainless handguns and rifles for nearly 30 years with no problem. Also a Lead Away cloth where necessary. Haven't owned a nickel gun since 1980, but Hoppes No.9 can turn the nickel finish if the user leaves it on. No problem with SSK Khrome.
