I recently purchased a winchester 69 that I have been unable to find information on. It is a cock on closing bolt with a brass scope (painted black by factory) The gun does not have, nor does it appear to have any provisions for open sites. The scope looks like a factory mount and has Winchester printed on the rings. It is externally adjustable and the only thing that I can see printed on it is 5 - X which I assume is the power. I think the qun was made between 1937 and 39 but can find no information on ever being avaiable with a factory scope (the person I purchased the gun from said it was factory). Does anyone have any help for me? Thanks.

You need to run this question by www.rimfirecentral.com they have a group there that are diehard model 69 fans.

I did run it past rimfirecentral and they were very helpful. They think it is the real thing. Thanks for the help.

The Win 69 first appeared in March 1935. It had a cock-on-close bolt. In late 1937 the bolt was modified to cock-on-open and it became the Win 69A. From 1937 to 1941 it was available from the factory with 2 3/4x and 4x scopes. So, if yours has a factory scope and cocks on close, it would have been made in early or mid 1937.

An addenda to my prior message... the 1939 Stoeger's Catalog -- which probably was prepared the year before -- lists the Win "model 69, Peep sights, Complete with 5X Telescope, Price...$18.80" It handled .22 Short, Long & Long Rifle. An extra 5-shot magazine was $1.00.
