I have acquired a Smith & Wesson Model 617 22 cal pistol.
it has a 6in barrell, and is a 6 shooter.
I am totally new to the Gun scene, and would like to know what ever you all can tell me about this one....please.
Mostly about its worth........just a ballpark estimate.

"SMITH & WESSON MODEL 617
The Model 617 cylinder holds 10 rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammo. If you are a traditionalist, however, there is a six-shot, 6-inch-barreled model available. The only finish available is stainless. It looks nice and is durable, but personally, I am disappointed to see fewer and fewer blued wheelguns available these days. The 610 has adjustable sights, of course, and the nice trigger Smith & Wesson is famous for. MSRP starts at $663."

I have one of the 6" 6 shot 617s. Mine seems to shoot everything well. The front sight was a little low, so I found a higher one in my parts box and swapped it out. I put Pachmary Presentation grips on mine and put in a slightly lighter trigger return spring from Wolff. Mine is nice and tight and I am happy with it.

617's are fun to shoot! Here is my bought new 20 year old 617. I paid 350 for it. New ones run over 600 now.

I have had three model 17's and one model 48,(same gun in .22 mag.), and were all considered target grade .22's. Very fine accuracy, excellent balance, and relatively expensive but well worth the money. The only problem I have ever encountered was powder flakes, (after many rounds of cheap ammo) under the ejector plate. This would slow or stop the cylinder rotation. Easy fix. Clean it!
The 617 is the same gun in stainless, though I was never aware of the ten shot cylinder.
My current stainless Ruger Government Target, 10 shot, has the same problem with CHEAP ammo. The crud builds up in the action and she fails to function.
I sold my 17's many years ago for $385.00 each, used in blue. They hold their value well.

An excellent revolver. I own a 10-shot 617 with 8 3/8 barrel (twin to my .44 629). I bought mine used off Gunbroker.com for $400, but generally they run in the upper $400's for used, $525 - $600 new. The revolver is very accurate and exceptionally well made. Very much worth the money.
