I am restocking my first deer rifle, a Sav 99 in 300 sav. I am having a problem getting a tight fit on the sides of the tang. Seems to splay out. I dont know if the inlet is over sized or its just the final fitting that Ive done. I got the stock from Gunstocks, INC. and it is in grey laminate. Any suggestions?

The wood on the very front of the buttstock should fit into the back of the receiver. This will limit the splaying you describe. The final fit should take the force of recoil on this area, and not on the back end of the tang. Recoil on the rear of the tang will eventually split the stock.
