I have done a search here and on other forums and really couldn't find much info on the Rock Island Arsenal .45.

I have seen some prices, anywhere from 350 to 425 on some of the internet auction sites but no reviews by shooters. Yeah there are a few magazine write ups but I take those with a large grain of salt.

Seems like a real inexpensive way to get a .45. I (like pretty much every one else) would love to own a 1911 but the ones I've seen are a bit pricey. The RIA seems affordable but that also scares me. Not looking for a "match" pistol just a good, reliable shooter.

So, anyone know who sells them? Any one own one? Opinions?

You will have better luck if you look for ROCK ISLAND ARMORY. Try going over to: http://forum.m1911.org/

I have a dozen 1911 clones and two of them are RIA's. They are made in PI. That's why the low peice. They are one of the best "bang for the buck" deals out there in pistolland.

Thanks. I am also looking at the new Taurus 1911. Supposed to have some real nice trigger work already done and exceptional fit and finish for $500.

Hazcat, between the two I want to go Taurus, then RIA. I like the prices on both for the features of both, and the Taurus is the better choice in my opinion of the two.

I have a Charles Daley 1911, made by the same folks in the Phillipines who make the RIA pistols. Mine is a superb pistol not only at the sub-$400 price, but at any price.

Yeah, I'm leaning that way myself. RIAs are creeping toward 350-400 and for the extra 100 for the Taurus you get some real nice work. More than you could do as add-ons to the RIA for the same cost.

My Daly has all the features of the Taurus and a better finish, to boot. Ambi safety, beavertail grip safety, extended slide release, dovetailed Patridge front sight and Novak rear, front and rear slide serrations, lowered/flaired ejection port, and total out-the-door cost was $373.50. A buddy has a new Taurus, and it's a nice pistol, but mine not only looks better but is more accurate, and after shooting mine he wishes he had looked for a Daly.

I got mine from a local dealer, I'd imagine you could get one anywhere that handles the Daly line.

You can see them here:

Mine's the EFS. Suggested retail is $499, but I typically see them in the $350-400 range.
