View Full Version : Winchester 1903 22 Auto
Just bought a Winchester 1903 in good condition except that the steel butplate is damaged. Does anyone know of a source for 1903 parts?
Thanks,
Luke

The only place I know you MIGHT find parts is at the gun shows. Good luck finding ammo also. Very expensive when you do find it. Too expensive to shoot.
I did check Numrich Gun Parts, and they no longer list the 1903.

I'm not sure of this but you might find the butt plate for the Win model 63 will fit. The 63 -- if my mind can still be relied upon -- was a .22 LR redo of the 03 and Winchester would have been foolish indeed to not take advantage of existing stocks.

The Winchester 63 was, in fact, a redo of the 03; but there is a distinct difference in the buttplates. The 03 had a sharply curved butt, reminiscent of the older flintlock rifles. I like the look of the older Win-03.
I managed to repair the buttplate I have, and it looks pretty good . . . . but never as good as an undamaged one would.
Thanks for the comments.

Just read today that some of the 03s had their barrel relined for 22LR. I wonder if this required work on the feeding mechanism also.
UPDATE: I think I might have answered my own question. The 03 that I have cycles perfectly with over 250 rounds of 22Winchester Auto fired so far. Not a single jam. Then, today I tried a 10 shot magazine of 22 Long Rifle cartridges . . . not firing, but manually cycling. Jammed every time. This leads me to believe that modifications must be made to the feeding mechanism in order to use an 02 with a relined barrel for 22LR.
This would greatly discourage me from buying an 03 with a 22LR relined barrel. Deal killer.
