My friend just told me he has a 1894 .44 that he used to carry when he was a trail guide in Denali Park AK.

He wants to go shooting again and we were looking at the ammo it takes.

It says either 44 Mag. / 44Spl

I didn't know there was a 44spl. Is that the same deal as .38 and 357 as in a lighter load ????

I have never seen 44spl for sale so we might not be able to get any.

I assume the 44 is handgun ammo which we can get anywhere.

Sorry for the newbie questions.... :-)

.44 mag was developed from thje .44spc. The onlu difference from a .44 spoc and a .44 mag is the . 44 mag has a longer case. you can shoot .44 spc from a .44 mag but you can not shoot a .44 mag from a .44 spc.

You should be able to find .44 spc ammo at most places that sell .44 mag. You can also get .44 spc online from places like midwayusa.com

Ok that makes sense. Sort of like the whole 357mag and 38spcl deal.

Thanks for the info :-)
