HI,

I am looking to buy a used 39A and would like to know a few things before I do.

1. Is there a website that lists the year of manufacture by serial number?

2. What years have the microgroove and what years have the crossbolt safety?

3. Are there any models/variations of lesser quality--things such as bluing or stock material?

4. What can I expect a used one selling for?

I didn't know the answers to these questions when I bought a 1951 336RC and was fortunate that all I've learned about the gun hasn't caused a case of buyers remorse. Too bad it's at the gunsmith with damage from a house fire. I hope it wasn't a bad idea to get it reblued and the wood refinished.

Maybe the Marlin history book I just ordered will come before I find a 39 used.

Thanks for you advice,

Bob

There is a website with lots of info on the Marlin and other rimfires. It is:
http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/

There is a forum for the Marlins. They definately have dates of manufacture and you can look and find answers to most of your questions. If you can't find it, ask.
