I just bought one. Anyone else own one? Took it out to the range today and shot it for the first time. It didnt keep the kind of groups I was expecting, but might take time to get use to it.

That is interesting you had trouble with the groups because I read an article in Guns & Ammo today about the compact having trouble at 25 yards. I am seriously considering the .45 XD compact but the article said they were shooting about 10 inches low at 25 yards. When they went to 10 yards it shot point of aim and about an inch or a little over groups. I would like to hear some opinions on this as well before I buy one. Personally I would like to see Springfield do some adjustments on the sights on the compact. I am not sure about the tactical.

Well, Besides not keeping very tight groups, it was shooting pretty low from point of aim. Even at 7 yards, it was hitting low. I wasnt as worried about it hitting low as I will be installing a set of adjustable target sights on it soon enough. Functions great though, just doesnt seem to be a real shooter, but it may take me some time to get use to it. I've bought some new pistols before that didnt shoot good at first, but are great shooters now, so maybe it just needs to get broke in.

remember its primary purpose is a combat handgun, not a target gun.
most say the XD's shoot better than the shooter ;)
I like my 4" service .45 XD, and my subcompact 9mm XD.
POA vs POI is a little quirky on XD's, but in general they are a nice gun.
the tactical's are nicer IMO because you're not limited to a captive recoil system, which both of my XD's use and they function flawlessly.

I looked at one very hard the other day and did discuss this XD model 45 with a friend of mine, who in fact works behind the counter for many years.
It is a well made handgun but not in the same class as a Kimber or older Springfield. They are not going to shoot groups like Kimbers simply put. I rank them a step and a half behind the rest of the elite group of 1911 models out there.

Just curious as to why you would compare a compact .45 XD with a 1911? I mean the XD models are nothing like a 1911 and it seems to me they are apples and oranges. They are completely different applications. There are a lot of pistols behind elite 1911s. They are also probably 1/3-1/4 the cost.

have an xd tactical in 40 the gun shoots great as far as your sights are you using the top of the front blade or the dot the gun should be on the dot when the top of the rear and front sight blades are lined up

- I am currently standing-by to do some T&E on a couple of Spring-Field-XDs...I am unsure of which caliber.
- I will pass any analysis and information here as soon as I can get some time behind the gun[s].

Number #1 because they both shoot 45acp rounds!
Number #2 because I do own a Kimber and was in fact comparing it to the model I carry savvy. Short barrel etc and smaller than the standard 1911 frame model. Kimber is far ahead and I didn't like the fit nor feel of the XD model in my hands, either one of them OK. PS I also own 2 other Kimbers, one stainless target model and one with fixed sights as well.

True, but an XD doesn't go for over $1,000 stock like a new Kimber.
a Chevy Cavalier is a nice little car, but you can't compare it to a Lincoln Navigator, even though they're both cars.

No kidding but it is still a apples to oranges comparison. However, any of the DA polymers (even though the XD is not a true DA) would be fair comparisons. The round is not what I was talking about.
