3 - 9 X 40, Model # 71-3947. Ordered it from Natchez. They quoted $70+ and I told them their catalog said $65. They gave it to me for $65. Great service from Natchez (as usual).

This scope is intended as an alternate for my 1895G.

The scope is a little over an inch longer than my Banner 1.75 - 4 X 32. Heavier by about an ounce. I mounted it on Warne Tall QD rings to match my other scope. Eye relief is an advertised 6 inches, but unlike my other Banner, the eye relief isn't as forgiving. I had to mount the scope further back on the receiver and can't install the scope covers with the scope mounted due to interference with the wings on my Ghost Ring. I might have to get some bikini covers or cut up an old inner tube like Marshall suggests.

The optics are bright, clear, (and from what I can tell) distortion-free all the way out to and around the edges. The finish is a matte black and is clean and well done. Field of view is much larger than my other Banner.

I'm heading out to the range Friday if work doesn't get in the way. Will post pics and a range report at a later date.

Went to the range Friday. Took both scopes. Sighted the 3 – 9 X 40, then proceeded to go after the silhouettes at a lazed 220 yards. What a great day!

Now for the new scope…. It’s brighter than the 1.75 – 4 X 32. Much brighter. Crisp, clear to the edge of the FOV. I noticed a slight reddish tint jumping off the tops of the black silhouettes around noon. Not enough to be an issue. Over all, I love this scope. Figured I’d be using it as the primary for my 1895G.

Come Sunday night, an idea occurred to me. Why not mount the 3 – 9 X 40 on my .270? I grabbed both rifles and scopes and proceeded to look at fit/function issues. I can mount the 3 – 9 on my Encore, but will have to move the forward ring. Apparently Weaver and Picatinny locate their slots differently. A search for a Picatinny rail for the Encore yielded nothing, so I’m stuck with the Weaver base for now.

Anyway, I’m still fiddling around with load development on the Guide Gun, but after I’m satisfied, I’ll mount the 3 – 9 on the .270.

Bottom line: I’m glad I have both scopes.

You're shooting 220 yrds with a 45-70?

Yup! Just gotta know the hold over. I'm hitting the chicken about 2 out of 5 from a rest.

WOW! Using Remington SHOOT that is 15 inches high at 120 yards with 405 grain bullets!

The graph looks like a howitzer.

Ranch Dog said to sight in at a specific distance, then use the sight picture to compensate. I've become a believer in this method. The alternative is to constantly adjust the scope.

I'm zeroed for 150yds. This gives me just under a 4" rise at 100 yds and a 15" drop at 220yds. But azimuth is steady, so I just lob them in. It's a blast!
