I just received two J.C. Higgins/Sears Roebuck and Co. 22lr from my dad, which were his dads

The top one (my favorite) is a model 31 semi auto and the bottom one is a model 2200 semi auto. The 2200 is the worst condition of the two.

They both have what appears to be just surface rust and lots of crud built up thru out the guns.

Heres what I'm asking for.
1. How to remove/stop the rust with out destroying the guns any further.
2. How to take down the model 31. I'm able to remove the forend but haven't been able to take off the trigger assembly.

Ouch. 0000 grade steel wool, and Break-Free will be a good start.

Looking at the photo I noticed a spot or two.

I found a copy of the Model 31 manual if anyone is looking for it.
