Does anybody here know what could have made the animal vocalizations I describe here. The "Ohio howl" I mention in the post can be heard on the 2nd page of my website.

Got any magic brownies!
I guess that means you can't positively link it to any known animal either:D

Your neighbor getting lucky?
A Forum member getting suspended for ethnic jokes?

Did it sound like it was wearing a snorkel and diver's mask?
Funny stuff gmd. Glad I swallowed my coffee before I opened this post.

Don't be narrow-minded - it could be all three :p

Does not sound like any animal. Sounds more mechanical like a low siren. Not course enough to be vocal and that deep of a voice. Too deep for a fox or Coyote.

....bear. I heard a very similar sound almost 9 years ago in the U.P. of Michigan. Here's my story...
My 20 week old Gordon setter pup and I went camping at a small trout pond in the middle of nowhere to fish the Michigan trout opener. When we went to bed, I was amazed to hear a ruffed grouse drumming; never heard one after dark before. Woke up at around midnight, freezing, and had the pup crawl into my sleeping bag. Checked my watch and at 12:30am the grouse was still drumming. Closed my eyes and went back to sleep. The pup and I woke about an hour before first light...just too cold to sleep. I put on my shoes and let Sage out.
She immediately made a B-Line for the swampy area behind the old earthen dam. Made sense because that was where the grouse was drumming from all night long. She disappeared for about five minutes when I heard the sound... From the swamp came this noise... Ever see "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers," the one with Donald Southerland? Remember that sound the "pod-people" made when they spotted a human? Take that sound, lower it a couple of octaves, and the was it. One that quiet, pre-dawn morning, that sound echoed across the pond and was amazingly loud.
Soon as I heard it, I hit the button on my transmitter, and yelled, "Sage come!" She immediately came out of the swamp like nothing happened. I went on to catch big, fat brookies that weekend.
About a month later, I talked to Cousin Leonard. Cousin Leonard, a WWII vet, was still running traplines. This guy has been running them since around the Depression. I made the sound for him, and he immediately told me, "That's a big boar(bear), a really big boar. He went on to tell me of a couple of encounters with big, male blackbears that made that sound.
Don't doubt Leonard...those "old school" trappers knew more about wildlife than a guy with a PHD in Wildlife Management.

Great story Dakoto! since you was in the UP it could have been the Bearwok. That's what Grandpa Alfonts always said. I think I believe your story. But just in case, remember "If you are always lookin back where you been you won't know what hits ya." Albert Sody
Oh by the by. If you guys have not seen Jeff Daniels, Escanaba in da Moonlight it is 7 bucks from overstock .com right now. Great story from the UP.
