Who makes high quality snap caps?

I want to break-in a S&W 642 in .38spcl. I have seen a lot of ads for different snap caps (A-Zoom, Traditions, Pachmyer etc.) Who has had good luck with any brand, and has anyone had bad luck with any brand?

All comments are appreciated.

I like the Tiptons. They have a spring loaded brass "primer", a brass base and extractor groove and a plastic nose. It's a durable design. Mine are .45 ACP.

The Armsport 12 gauge snap-caps have a spring loaded brass primer, but the rest of them is made from a brittle plastic that cracks. Mine haven't fallen apart yet, but others have.

I have some no-name all plastic ones in 20 gauge. The "primer" is hammered to the point that I don't think they're doing any good.

I like the A-zooms, but I believe they are made by pachmyer.

I think an article here has how to make them on your own with a pencil eraser. I have not tried it.

I use A-zooms

I like the A-Zooms. But I've also made some by filling the primmer pocket with hot glue (the harder kind) then seating a bullet. I also like to take a file and score and X across the face of the bullet, for identification purposes...

this works, but I prefer the a-zooms

I tried soom clear plastic ones in 12 gauge years ago. I think they were Pachmyer? You could see the spring and inner workings.

They didn't last long. The plastic was too brittle and the rims cracked in short order

That was at least 20 years ago. Now days they use high-tech polymers instead of plastic! Might work more better?

OK. I've put it off long enough. I'm going to go out and buy some snap caps.

thank you for all the input. A-Zooms will be added to all the other firearm goodies.
