My girl friend went to the range with me yesterday! She is a true 'Cali Girl' (no offense intended) who was not raised around guns and had never fired one.
She has been watching my son and I go off to the range and then come back jazzed up and talking about how we shot and then cleaning the firearms. At first she was very afraid of the guns. I never insisted she should hold one or criticized her for being afraid. I did SLOWLY explain how guns work and how to safely handle them and how to tell if they were loaded etc.
She started asking more questions over time and saw that though we considered guns 'fun' we were very serious and careful when handling them.
Well after many months she says "Show me how".
She shot my Ruger Single Six and did darn well! At 10 yards they were all in the center of the target with about a 14 inch vertical spread. She was jazzed and wants to try a few other 22s before she buys one!
A beautiful beginning to family fun!
