My girl friend went to the range with me yesterday! She is a true 'Cali Girl' (no offense intended) who was not raised around guns and had never fired one.

She has been watching my son and I go off to the range and then come back jazzed up and talking about how we shot and then cleaning the firearms. At first she was very afraid of the guns. I never insisted she should hold one or criticized her for being afraid. I did SLOWLY explain how guns work and how to safely handle them and how to tell if they were loaded etc.

She started asking more questions over time and saw that though we considered guns 'fun' we were very serious and careful when handling them.

Well after many months she says "Show me how".

She shot my Ruger Single Six and did darn well! At 10 yards they were all in the center of the target with about a 14 inch vertical spread. She was jazzed and wants to try a few other 22s before she buys one!

A beautiful beginning to family fun!

Keep practicing Hazcat. Women seem to just be better shots than men, unless we practice.

I'm glad my wife likes to shoot but hates to just spend the time practicing. Allows me the luxury of keeping the title of best shot in the family. :D

Tell me about it! Between my son and my GF if I don't get serious with my practicing I'm gonna get dusted!

But even if I do get bettered I'm gonna 'keep on shootin'. :)

No, because you'll never get to live that one down. I lost a halibut my wife had barely hooked. She brought it to the surface, it took one look at the gaff and figured out I was trying to slide the bigger hook in under it to lift it into the boat and it spit her hook out and disappeared back underwater.

Three years later I still hear about it.

It's called death, because that's how long she will remember it.
