Looking for opinions. You may have recently covered this but I haven't logged in lately. What are some of the preferred 9mm autos for IDPA? Will 30 Tokarev meet the power requirement? Do you need extended mags for a 1911A1 or will standard issue ones work? Any answers or suggestions would be appreciated.

Craig,

I'm not real sure about the mag capacity issue, I seem to remember someone talking about the IPDA as not being very ammo intensive, as the tables were fairly short. I think that they do this for the sake of competetion, so choosing a 7 over a 15 round pistol won't be a disadvantage.

The underlying intent is to use the gun that you carry, and not one of the Buck Rogers guns. The fellows that I know that shoot it do so with their duty guns, so there is allot of glocks here and there. I think I would shoot the 92 Beretta, just because Uncle Sam said that I was married to it.

The Glock 34 would actually be the gun that I would recommend to you, if you wanted to go that route. I used to own a 35, and that gun would really shoot. If I were to shoot a 1911, I think I would 8 round mags with a bumper pad, to aid in seating on the quick, but the extended jobs I don't care anything about.

Also, I'm not sure about the 7.62 X 25, but I would bet that it would work, that little bullet comes out of there in a hurry. I think the power requirement is less than IPSC, by allot, so I would doubt that you would have any issue.

Best to you friend, good shooting.

Steve

The Glock 34 was made to fit IDPA specs.

Check this site: http://www.idpa.com/. I'm getting set up for USPSA using my SigSauer P229. I did check out an IDPA match locally and found it had too many restrictions for me. Specific holster brands, mag holders, certain handgun restrictions, you are required to shoot wearing an overgarment. Plus, you had to join the organization to partcipate. Most of the 9's I saw were Glocks. Some XD's and one guy had a CZ. Some were using a revolver. Nice thing about either sport, many shoot their normal everyday auto. Nothing fancy. After all, it is a sport. Good luck.
