View Full Version : Longer Blackhawk Grips?

I've seen a lot of posts on grips for Ruger blackhawks, but I'm missing information specifically on the grips that make the handle longer.

For example, Herrett grips has an overhang that is below the XR3 (Round Trigger Guard 4 3/4 bbl) grip frame, effectively a 2 piece grip that makes the handle longer. I'm not to skippy on those because they protect the middle finger from getting wrapped by the trigger guard, and I like pain (yeah right) I just dunno if it looks nice.

The single piece grips from Hogue also have a lenghening effect because of the extra wood or plastic that covers the bottom of the frame, but I have one on my N-Frame, and I like it there.

Ideally, I'd like a black micarta or pearlite style 'gunfighter' grip (because I'm such a western gunfighting kind of guy) {yeah right, again, I like the way I look with it.} that create the effect of a longer handle.

Something like this, but I don't know if they are longer than the factory?

Have I made any sense with this?

Thanks

Makes perfect sense to me. Why BH grip frames are so short is a question to me. I have Hogue Rubber grips on my .41 BH that look butt ugly but feel so good. I bought the Bisley for my .45 and it is better. The .22's are worse. Two fingers under the frame. Good luck.

Thanks, oldfort

Can you explain:

I bought the Bisley for my .45 and it is better.

Is that the Hogue for your Bisley .45? or did you switch out grip frames?

On the matter of grip size, maybe Ruger was trying to copy out the Colt SAA look and feel?

Thanks

The Hogue rubber grips are on my 4 5/8" .41mag standard BH that I've had since the 80's. My 5 1/2" SS Bisley is newer. I have changed out the wood grips that came on it to black plastic grips made by Vintage. I like the look of the black on the SS and the feel is a little slimmer. Midway had them for $25. Good luck.

Try EAGLE GRIPS GUNFIGHTERS. They have a flat rather than beveled bottom and you pick up a surprisingly better "feel" with them.

Otherwise, it gets expensive to switch to a DRAGOON or BISLEY grip frame (and associated parts) or ugly with HOGUES or PACHMAYRS...they work, but they ain't pretty!

I have Hogue Grips on my 4 5/8" BH 41 mag ,45lc/45acp & SS Single Six convertible 22/22mag since they're more comfortable and fit my hands better.
