I'm getting a Springfield XD Tactical pretty soon. I already saved the .45 ACP for the 1911 so I'm looking to get a different caliber for the XD.

Which one would you pick and why?

I really like the .400 Corbon. The necked-down .45 Auto is a great idea and performance is close to that of a standard 10mm Auto. The only problem is it's not a really popular round and you can't really buy in bulk for practice. Heck, only one company makes brass for reloading.

The .357 is cool too, it also follows the bottleneck design. It's way more popular than the .400 Corbon. You can actually get whitebox type ammo for the .357 for plinking. It's not so much of a "wildcat" and "cult" cartridge as the .400 Corbon.

The .357 Sig is well proven from the standpoint of reliability, stopping power and availability. It still has plenty of " cool factor ", whatever that is. The choice is a no- brainer to me.

i've had some bad experiences with .357 sig. not penetrating enough and bouncing off soft targets.

in my opinion it's an over-rated 9mm. i've never messed with the .400 corbon, so i can't tll you anything about that.

get the .45 and share ammo with the other one...:D

I've been hearing that alot latetly, that its an overpowered 9mm.

Well, I think the slow acceptance of .357 SIG compared to the ubiquity of 9mm might change my mind. Maybe these cartridges are an answer to a non-problem?

An 'overpowered 9mm' could also describe a .357 mag :p

I hear that's why alot of police officers used .38 Special+P in their .357 Magnum back in the day.

A 400 Corbon is mighty powerful and with a barrell change, you have one on a 45 ACP without much other changes. Then a 45 ACP does get the job it was designed for quite well.
I seen the same with 40 S&W changed out to 357 Sig, but I was not as much impressed. It really has not any porposeful advantage over the 40 S&W.
I wish the Bren 10 would have caught one, but it just goes to show that what is fenerally popular is not what I like in most things.
Then, if you change out the standard 45 to the 45 super, you have the same thing, more power, but it has not caught on either as has the Detonics, I think that is the spelling?
