I've been looking at these scopes to put on my new 25-06 and 7mag. They seem like nice scopes in the store, but there is only so much you can tell indoors w/ lots of light. I'm looking at the 4.5-14x44 models. They seem like quite a bit of glass for $279. Any experiences with these scopes would be appreciated. Thanks, Brett
Our resident Cabela's scope authority has been offline for a while now. However, Faucettb always thought well of the Pine Ridge and the Alaskan series scopes by Cabela's. Think they're made in Japan, not China.

Several Years ago I read an article that compared the Cabelas Alaskan Guide, Weaver Grand Slam, Leupold Vari-X III (the VX series was not out yet), Nikon Monarch (IIRC) and several others.
The results were suprising. I don't remember which one was the writer's first choice but the top two were the Cabelas Alaskan Guide and the Weaver Grand Slam.
It's just one man's opinion but at least it is a little something to hang your hat on.

I bought one of the 4.5x14 CAbelas Guide scopes and after sighting it in, I noticed that it wouldn't hold zero. When I adjusted the windage knob, the whole thing fell out in my hand. I took it back to Cabelas and got a Zeiss 4.5x14
One experience like that puts me off of a product, even though, it would probably not ever happpen again.
Outside of that, clarity was good.
For the price, $325.00, the Burris 4.5-14 seems like a better buy.
Good Luck
