Just got a 24" Cowboy in 44 mag. Is it OK to shoot JHP through it, or do I need to shoot another type of ammo? Concerned about wear to the barrel. Will use for home defense and hunting.
Jacketed bullets will be fine. Try some of the Magtech 240 grain cartridges, they shoot about the best of any factory load I have tried in mine.

I'd go with a jacketed hollow pt for home defense and would try the Hornady XTP loading for huntin big game. Small game won't make much diff.

Thanks for the info fellas. I'm new to shooting a Marlin Cowboy. Didn't want to hurt the rifle by using the wrong ammo.
Again, appreciate the info.
