Weather was hot and dry. Too hot for comfort. We traveled all total about 3,000 miles, visiting many conservacys, ranches, hunting units and lodges. It was an adventure from the start. Hunting was very difficult due to the time of year and heat. I only took a Zebra, Chobe Bushbuck, Waterbuck and darted a Lion that needed medical attention. He now resides within a Lion park. My Zebra was a nice stallion; my Bushbuck an outstanding trophy and my Waterbuck a heavy 27 incher. I could have taken a number of other animals but my concern for their peliage in the hot weather changed my mind. We did manage to contact some great areas for hunting Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Elephant. Although there were a surprising number of Black Rhino, they are not hunted in Zim as of yet. White Rhino is alive and well in RSA and available. I return to RSA in late spring for plains game and take a client Lion hunting. I'll try to post more pics when I get them. More pics are on my web site: www.grayghostsafaris.com/ Good hunting, grayghost

Congrats grayghost. I had to look at your website to determine that your pic is of a Bushbuck....sorry...beyond a kudu, eland, sable, and gemsbok, I don't know the species very well. Good luck later this spring.

That is a MONSTER bushbuck too. Congratulations. Doubt I could have handled the temps, but that is a hoss of a bull-buck.

Glad you had a good hunt. How'd the hunt for Nyala go?

Thanks Shawn, although SCI record book lists eight species of Bushbuck in Africa, there are as many as 29 listed sub-species. They belong to the spiral horn family (bushbuck, nyala, sitatunga, kudu etc). They (rams) average around 100-125 lbs in live weight though some can get heavier but not by much. The average ram I see hunters bring home is 8.5-10 inches as they are not that easy to find as a rule. But if you hook up with an experienced PH and hunt in high percentage areas, you should be able to get a ram in the 12-14 inch range. I have been very fortunate in taking 14.5, 15.75 & 16 inch rams. I will continue to hunt Bushbuck. They are outstanding table fare. Alyeska, thanks for the congrats. Nyala is side tracked right now. Hopefully I'll get him in June, but right now I'm scrambling to put together a Lion hunt for myself and a client. I'd prefer to leave in late May so I won't compound my June trip but I may have to leave much sooner. Lion for myself was a "back burner" effort but sometimes things come together much faster and anytime I can save a lot of money on a hunt I pay attention :) Good hunting, grayghost
