Does anyone know if tables were published to show date of manufacture based on the gun's serial number?

I have seen Winchester 22s for sale with the date of manufacture specified by the seller, so I am sure that a reference must exist somewhere.

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the information. That site seems to have info on all the old Winchester rifles.

Keep in mind that before 1963 (?) or around there, rifles were not required to have serial numbers. Most big bore rifles did, but many .22 rimfires did not.

It was the Gun Control Act of 1968 (effective December 16, 1968) that required serial numbers on all firearms. All the best...

I have a Winchester 03 and a Winchester 63; and both have serial numbers. Based on the calculator in the link provided by Jim H. (above) their respective manufacture dates were 1913 and 1951. I compare this to the dates provided by the sellers when I bought these rifles and the dates provided were 1914 vs 1913 and 1950 vs 1951. Not sure where the dates from the sellers were obtained.

Maybe there is another source for the SN/Date relationship that differs by one year ? ? ? ?
