Ditto the Chief. Lord knows, I've got plastic ammo boxes stacked up under the reloading bench to supply the next brigade assigned to Iraq!

I get them from Midway, too. They have pretty good prices if you buy them in quantity.

I bought some on ebay. Won a couple of auctions with 10 new ammo boxes for around $15. Those were Frankfort Arsenal boxes which I don't care for near as well as those made by MTM. MTM's can take a tumble in cold weather with no adverse effects.

i like midway's boxes but there really isn't anything i need from there.... the last time i tried to buy just 10 boxes from midway the guy just flat refused to sell me only them...... i think they were on sale at the time for a buck apiece.... i didn't need 50 of em...................

I'm like the other guys, I simply add them to an order and have no other problems. I've also bought some from Harbor Freight. They usually have them on a desplay rack in front of the store.

Fitz Pistol Grip Co made the first ammo boxes after WW2 because cardboard ammo boxes carried by hunters within their body envelope of moisture softened, bullet noses punctured the boxes and if dropping in the woods were not ovvious and if dropped in a stream got soaked.

Fitz the 1919 Co, solved the problem by importing a beautiful Red color from germany and used a plactic called Tupperware feeling plastic that never cracks, peels, changes color or wears out. It is slip top which takes the least space loaded or empty and is flexible in Alaska and moisture and humidity proof by its precise construction.

No other company used red color until the Fitz factory burnt down in 1979 ending the business.

Boxes from the 1950's are in use by grandchildren today who want more. Some new ones just sold on ebay for $39.95 for ten 50 capacity pistol or 20 capacity rifle.

What is selling now was made in 1975 and are still brand new and is that economical to last yours, your kids and grandkids shooting careers??

I am too old to keep my 1970's lifetime quality tools stash any longer and as the last original Saeco Co, man I prefer to tell a Bulletcasting list about them.

You can buy MTM boxes from Grice Wholesale for $1.50 a box.

$.99 a box for the 20 round boxes.

Any day of the week.

I personally liked the yellow Flambeau large rifle boxes, but that company quit making them a few years ago.

Probably one of the best boxes I ever saw!

I find them at gun shows for $1.5 - 2. There are sellers that buy them in bulk, and sell them pretty cheap at the shows.

The absolute best 50 round box that I have used are the ones made by Plano. The lid is actually hinge pinned instead of a molded hinge. Those molded hinges are about a pain in the butt when shooting from a bench. I buy them from here http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000861211

These folks are great to deal with & have great prices.

I was buying 4 packs at Cabela's store in WV for around $5.49. I dont see them on their web page, but maybe if you call then you could get the four pack deals.

I get em at gun shows but plenty of my reloads are in plastic boxes like you get at wally's or the dollar store for leftovers or the freezer, Isn't pretty but works great at a few cents apiece. Just label everything good. I use masking tape on the outside and a slip of paper inside.

I get plastic ammo boxes from Berry's bullets.

I used to run out, but I made a mega buy, so I won't have to move things around to go to the range.

Interesting post, Mr. Jones. I never knew the connection between Fitz and Tupper. Earl Tuper was from Berlin, New Hampshire -- the same town that gave us Ned Roberts, father of the .257 Roberts.

Thanks for filling us in on some of the details on how we got from there to here.
