I would hesitate to put oil meant for metal on my gunstock even though it is synthetic oil.

Is the finish on your (assuming wooden) stock glossy or matte? Is the stock laminate or real wood?

I use regular corn oil, the cooking kind since I'm allergic to petrolium products. Works nice on metal and leaves a natural smell the critters don't mind. Won't rot the wood either like petro oil. Fresh oil from the bottle, not used oil that may have salt in it. Regular furniture polish works on the wood. But always try a small test spot before doing the whole stock.

I use carnauba wax on wood projects all the time it works well and you can buff it to shine if you want.Q

I prefer stuff ment for wood on wood. I tried Armor All on a plastic(high-tech polymer) stock. It cleaned it well! I did it dismounted from the rifle as I don't want to be the first to find out what it does to metal?

I can't see how oil(petroleum) and wood would be a good combination. Vegetable oils seem more sensible to me. I use stuff intended for "fine" furnature on mine. Most "claim" to contain lemon oil. I have done this for several decades now, and my guns look good!

A master gunsmith taught all of his customers to ONLY USE OIL inside of their weapons never on the exterior. For scratch cover on my wood stocks I use Old English Furniture Polish and on the exterior of my blued rifles and wood stocks I use Trewax.

Scott's Liquid Gold is outstanding for wood stocks. It hides scratches very well and brings out the wood grain. Just don't apply it over varnish or plastic finishes.

I know a dealer of high end shotguns and he uses Pledge on the outside of his stuff, on both metal and wood. He absolutely swears by it to keep fingerprints off.

Great gun lube - no petroleum - no smell - it works!
