Hello all. I have been severely bit by the bug for old guns shooting old cartridges. I have a model 94 in .30-30, but dont shoot it much (willed to me by who else, my grandfather, an heirloom, not a shooter) but would like to get a heavier caliber in a replica than 45 colt (what my 73 shoots)
Are there any rifles/replicas made nowadays in 32/40? Not only does it fit my requirements to be 1) old and 2) blackpowder, but the ballistics look quite impressive for a 120 year old cartridge, a 170 gr bullet at nearly 2000 FPS. Looks like a deer cartridge to me!
Thanks in advance!
PS This was originally chambered in the 1894 correct, or was it offered in the 1886?
Winchester made some 1894s in 32-40 back in the "olden days". I know that the John Wayne Comemorative was in 32-40 and maybe some of the latest offerings right before the bitter end... I'm not sure about that though.
There is a limited edition Winchester/Miroku 1885 from Davidson's out now in 32-40. In addition; CPA, Ballard Rifle Co., Shiloh Sharps, and I'm sure some I am forgetting, will be happy to make you a 32-40.

Yes, my John Wayne Comemorative is, indeed, .32-40! Still unfired, with all the original box, instructions, etc.

I've been looking for a better load. My .32-40 Winchester ammo is 165 gr SP at around 1350 ft/sec. with modern smokeless powder. Ammo #W3240JW(Winchester Brand). Check your chart. That 170 gr. at 2000 sounds more on the order of the .32 Win. Spl.(2250 w/ 170), another fine old deer getter.

I have a Marlin 1893 in 32-40 that is a "collector" as it was made in 1906 .
I still shoot it quite often with cast bullets and smokeless powder .
I even used it in the 2005 VA deer season to take a 3 point whitetail ;)
The load I use to hunt with this "old" rifle is the RCBS 170 grain FN GC bullet cast from wheelweights and 15 grains of XMP5744 , and primed with CCI200 primers .

Davidson's has a limited run of Winchester 1885's in 32-40 . Granted this is a single shot and they are gonna set ya back about $1250 . But they look pretty decent and already have Marble's tang sights attached .
Kinda like one myself :D
