Saturday afternoon, I went out with some friends to move deer stands and just generally clean up the hunting lease.
I always have a rifle with me and this time it was a 223 Vanguard.

We drove up to the first feeder and at about 200 yards, I saw there were pigs all over it. So with careful deadeye aim, I downed the first pig with a shot right behind the ear. ( I wasn't aiming there as the pig moved) You can see it it in the picture.
Then caught some of the piglets running across the open field and killed two more( at about 15 lbs each, Mike G would know exactly what to do with them). Then that evening, sitting in the new two man blind that we just moved, I had another bunch come out and shot a black and tan hog at about 150 yards. I aimed for the ever popular steel re-inforced shoulder and downed it with the little 223.
It was still light so I headed back to camp, and came across 30 or 40 more in another group.
All of the groups had big litters with them. I guess, the sows really have to feed a lot to keep up with their family growth.
Anyway, I just used the 223 to irritate some folks, but it was a fun hunt and plan to go back next week-end with a cooler.

Turkey season ought to be good for both hogs and birds, plan a trip. The pigs are uncontrollable. There are just too many piglets being born right now. I try to shoot the sows, thinking that the piglets will die but I've heard that they just get adopted by the other sows.
I put this big stand on a field where three creeks come together. Deer. hogs and turkey are always there.
I am thinking seriously about trading for one of those ruger ranch rifles in 223.

They do. One year I saw two big sows with 14-16 piglets between them. The sows were FAT - I know because I shot of one of them.

A week or two later, my dad got the other one, and it was very skinny and had roughly the same amount of piglets running around (which he also got two of).

No word on the rest, but I'm sure they were big enough to survive by then.

If I can get my 6mm back together, will try to get it broken in on a hog or two.... :D
