Why would a person want to hide a gun in a National Park? If it's carried for animal protection why not open carry so it would be accessable? Same thing for people protection? Besides, it looks funny when a fellow has to pull off his cowboy boot to get to his ankle rig. Most parks have rules that apply to public campgrounds already. Why add more ?

You cannot carry firearms in National Parks, except in special circumstances, which carrying for animal and personal protection do not apply.

contact your senators. its a national law, so if you want answers, or change, it has to start at the appropriate level.

While you're at it, talk to them about the new AWB, HR1022 if I recall correctly.

National parks, National forest. Owned by different people? Or just different set of rules?

National Parks are administered and policies are determined by Department of Interior. They are set up for preservation and natural processes.

National Forests are multiple use federal lands administered by Department of Agriculture.

Both are "owned" by the people of the U.S....

National Forests can be hunted by the general populace (except for specially designated units) and firearm carry generally isn't an issue. National Parks cannot be hunted and firearms are prohibited. National Preserves, administered by Department of Interior, can be hunted and carrying of firearms is allowed. These are usually, but not always, adjacent to National Parks.

Don't sound like I'll be going to a Park then. I enjoy the critters but not too fond of them enjoying me.

Well, I can understand your point, but you are going to be missing out on many grand parts of this country. I do not agree with the NPS policy. I never have and never will. However, I do not let that keep me from enjoying the National Park System.

Yellowstone, Yosemite, Wrangell-St. Elias, Denali, Gates of the Arctic, Glacier Bay, Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, Glacier, Acadia, and many other national parks in our country contain some of the most awe inspiring natural wonders on the planet. They can be enjoyed without risking life and limb recklessly. The policy is terrible and needs to rescinded, but don't let it keep you from enjoying the Park system.

If you are a U.S. resident, you are paying for them anyway, you might as well enjoy them...

Don't avoid the National Parks because you're afraid a bear will eat you. Our national Parks are wonderful and in many of them you will see things that do not exist anywhere else in the world.
Just go, follow the rules, and you will be quite safe.
