In what year were serial numbers made mandatory? This discussion came up and I haven't a clue when manufacturers were required to serial number every weapon. I'd guess it was in the 20's but that is just a guess.

Required in 1968.

Some makers always put serial numbers on all their guns...some didn't bother to serialnumber their lowest priced guns (at least before 1968). EVERYTHING got a serial number after 1968.
