I have a 7.62 X 39 sks DB Norinco. Will a muzzle brake help with 1) accuracy out at 200 yds. 2) Keeping muzzle down, holding sight picture thru scope after shot. 3) reducing recoil.

1/ No.
2/ Maybe, haven't shot an SKS with a brake.
3/ Yes.

The simple answer to all three questions is - No.

The standard muzzle brake designed for the SKS is designed to assist with muzzle climb, but it isn't great enough to allow continual target acquisition. Accuracy and reduced recoil were not considered.

1- Maybe but doubtful. In some rare cases, adding a MB can change the barrel harmonics enough to improve accuracy but very doubtful it'll do anything on the SKS. The only way to gain accuracy with the sks (and most all other mil-surp guns) is to first correct all the mechanical issues then custom tailor ammo for the specific rifle.

2- What are being sold as "standard muzzle brakes" are not, they were designed as flash supressors not brakes and they don't do either function well.

3- See #2 above.

The right brake will function well but only within the limits of the gun and round. Because of the limited amount of residue gas pressure, installing a compound climb/recoil brake will do very little on the SKS. Going with a climb only style will help keep the muzzle down but will likely increase the felt recoil because the vertical momentum quelled by the reducing the muzzle climb will be transitioned into the horizontal plane.

Thanks For The Answers. I Dont Think I Will Be Getting A Muzzle Brake. Im Holding 5 Shots In A 10in. Paper Plate At 200 Yds. And Im Being Told By Some Other Guys, Thats Pretty Good For A Sks Scoped Rifle Shooting Semi Auto.

For a stock rifle, that's about right, not bad actually. I did a lot of work to my wife's Yugo and with hand loads it'll do 4.25" average at that range. (from the bench)
