Short of having an airtight gunsafe, are soft cases, with a few dessicant packs inside, okay for short term storage in my bedroom closet ?

These guns are shot every week, and milsurps are cleaned with ammonia/water right after. I live in OH and my apartment is climate controlled.

As long as the guns are cooled down and dry when they're put in a soft case, corrosion shouldn't be an issue, right ?

Thanks

Should be OK...climate control is the key, it's the inability of most soft cases to "breath" that trapps moisture...but if the climate is stable and they've been normalized to the temp., should do fine. I still tend to check them now and again, but that's more ADD than anything else.

I agree with Ribbonstone. The idea is to let moisture get away from the firearm. I have a couple of cases that a nephew sewed for me made from cotton cloth. You can hold them to a light and see through them. All they do is keep the dust off. Silicon impregnated "gun socks" work well too. There is near "zero" impact protectin from either of these.

If you take a heavy canvas "softcase" outside from a cool/dry envronment into a hot/humid one, the case will attract mosture. Put your firearm in there and put it back in the closet is asking for trouble.

Not sure why you want to put them into a case. If you are putting them in the back of a closet, simply cover them (an old sheet?). That would avoid all of the problem with temperature changes, as long as they are allowed to stablize before you put them away.
That is, if it was cold out, and you bring them in, allow them to warm up, and then allow any condensation to dry off before you clean and oil them. I have to do this all of the time to make sure that there is no water on the guns.
A case has the potential of getting wet, or trapping moisture. Even desicant packets might not affect all parts of the gun, if it is in a tight fitting case.

I would wipe them down with Break Free or use RIG. I use a lot of Break Free my self.
