I'm probably going to be buying an 1895 to shoot at my rifle clubs buffalo shoot. I called and asked the coordinator of the match if the 1895 would work and he said ok, but for some reason I'm worried that he didn't know exactly what it was and just went by the name "1895". So is the general design for the 1895 from 1896 or before? The regulations say
"Repeater
Guns allowed: Pre-1896 design
Calibers: Any rimmed rifle cartridge .38 caliber or larger that was originally loaded with black powder."
Also, I think I want to put a different rear sight on it. I thought about a tang sight, but I've read that they can get in the way of your hand and hit you in the eye when shooting heavy loads. I love the peep on my M1 so I'd like to stick with some sort of peep if possible, but I'd also like it to be finger adjsutable (like the Marbles tang and the sights on my M1) as I'd be shooting at a variety of distances in the match. The match only goes to 250 yards, but you can shoot out to 600(soon to be 1000) at the club. Hopefully I'll use it in the future years to go on an elk or bear hunt. Thanks.
