I've finally got a round to it. It is chambered in the ubiquitous
Marlin Model 62. The old girl looked quite rough in the stock refinish and buggered screws. Price was right from an SKS fan that wanted the scope only. FREE!
In William Iorg's past posts, he mentioned he had a 256 Win chambered firearm, but not the make/model.
I obtained some once fired brass and loaded up some 75Gr Speer spitzers with Herc (yes) 2400 and some Alliant Re#7 for test runs. Trigger very bad, but gun go boom and put respectable holes in the targets. Reworked the trigger and replaced the firing pin and cleaned up burrs now while the weather is bad.
I found GMDR's data on this round for some guide lines on reloading data as well. Not a whole lot of data out there with good specifics as to COL. A bit with the flat nose Speer 25-20 bullet, etc. Would help if I knew the length of this bullet.
The Marlin has a 24 inch barrel, Micro Groove as well. Question to Slim, if you see this post, can you throw any tid bits my way on any work you've done for reloading for this neat little round. I've read Rocky Raab's info as well. He wasn't to impressed with the performance from a 10 Contender, but since its introduction 45 yrs ago, I've vowed to obtain one and make it work in a rifle. Meister bullets has a Magma Cast 85 gr lead I might try for plinking. I know the limitations on this round and will eventually pick up a Chrony.
I've played with the 357, 308, 6mm Rem, and the 45-70 for 40 yrs reloading, but that data is all over the world and in many manuals.
The 60gr Hornady isn't in the ball park no matter the velocity.
Sorry for the ramble, LOL. :o
