I have a CMP 1903 Springfield (A1 type, the kind with the ladder peep sight, not the dedicated sniper rifle). Does anyone have any experience with adding a scope to this weapon?
I am pretty much an iron sight guy, but it would be nice to add to the versatility of this already great rifle. I am looking at an aftermarket scope at this website http://www.gunaccessories.com/MilitaryScopeMounts/Springfield/index.asp
Are these any good? What do you recomment for the 1903/1903A1 springfield? Thanks.

While I have not used the specific mounts you referenced, I have a B-Square mount on a 1903 and an S&K InstaMount on a 1903-A3. They work about the same way. My preference was to use 3-9X variable scopes on these rifles. No drilling or tapping was required, but I did have to inlet the stocks a bit in front of the receiver ring for the mount.
You may have to go to higher rings to ensure that the bolt handle clears the scope. The final set up is functional and somewhat higher than scopes on sporter rifles. Hope this helps. All the best...
