My brother and I are thinking about hunting out west. I have been hiking and fishing in Montana ,Wyoming Idaho and Colorado, and love the mountains. We would like to hunt antelope. Can we buy a license over the counter or what? We are into hiking and can carry a heavy load, we just want to hunt . Any help? Q

Go to this site, select US Game Laws in left column. When you get the state list, select the state you want to know about and it will take you to its web site and allow you to select a PDF of that states proclamations, or whatever that state calls them.

Here's the link to Idaho Fish and Game and a link to the Idaho hunting forum. Both can give you some idea of the regulations.

I was born and grew up here in Idaho and aside from a couple of years in Hawaii and five years in Alaska in the Service have spent my life here in Northern Idaho. I've never been antelope hunting so I can't help you there.
As far as deer go the hunting here is great and there does not seem to be a lot of hunting pressure. Our elk hunting has taken several hits in the past few years. It' started out with a massive winterkill a few years ago then with the Canadian gray wolf introduction we've had major wolf kills in the last few years.
There's still elk here, but there in durned hard places to hunt. Folks are still harvesting them and good ones too, but you've got to be prepared to hunt hard to get to them.
I'd be glad to show you places if your interested. I'm just to crippled up to get into them anymore myself. I've got google and a typo mapping system on my computer.

In Colorado all rifle and muzzleloader pronghorn licenses are limited and issued by drawing - due date for applications was April 3. Archery licenses for pronghorn (season August 15 to September 20) are available over the counter for some areas of the state. The CO DOW website is www.wildlife.state.co.us

I'll send you some maps of the country I hunt Q. I'd be glad to show you if you get a chance to come out this way.
I've got Google earth and It gives a pretty good idea of what this country looks like. There's still some good elk in this country, but You've got to get further back in the woods now than I'm used to. I've got friends whom are harvesting every year, but they pack in and pack out a ways. The wolves haven't killed all the elk, but they've changed the way we have to hunt them.

Idaho is draw only for antelope but give Wyoming a look. I kinda think you can buy a tag over the counter there. Heard that but talks cheap.

Na ya can't, unless you count the few left over licenses that residents camp outside the vender's door all night before, and scoop them all up before 7AM.
All big game tags are on the draw system in Arizona. We have an abundance of species, but a derth of numbers in any one species. Also, to apply, you have to buy a hunting license before or with the application for the draw. The draw funds are remitted (less the draw fee) if unsuccessful.
check with www.azgfd.com for dates of draws and units. Be aware most units will have several hundred app's for every tag.
