Today was a good day, I am now the happy owner of a Marlin 39 with F as the prefix letter in the serial number. I have been looking for one for years a F 39 was made the year I was born. I picked my name in this forum after seeing the Marlin thread.

Gun show over in Boise today and we were going there anyway to see the wife's sister, or we wouldn't have gone. There is a Savage 99 in 243 I am thinking about buying. I took a Russian SKS I have not shot in 10 years to carry at the gun show and thought if some one gives me a OK price for the SKS I will pick the 99 up next week. Well were walking, looking and spot the Marlin 39, check the # and surprise, it's a F. So I say to the guy " I'll trade ya this Russian SKS for that Marlin' and never really expected him to give an offer much less a good one. I couldn't hardly believe my ears when after looking at the SKS 30 seconds he says "OK I'll do that" So we made a clean swap, I still can't believe it. I would call it a good outside to very good, to excellent inside condition. Took the 39 out and we shot about 100 rounds and it;s all OK... with the exception of it may need a new guide spring. Sometime ya just get lucky I guess..

Two questions,
1, is a Marbles rear sight correct?
2, the butt plate is a plastic is checkered and says Marlin, is this correct or should it just be grooved?
I can't find pictures on the net, but I am happy either way, it would be nice to know. The stock has the correct # stamped, but not sure on the sight or butt plate.

Thanks guys
