Have aquired a Ruger number 1 in .30 Schwartz from an estate. No dies, cases or loading info. Chamber cast measurements indicate a shortened .32-40 necked to .30; bore .300 groove .309. It is a cast bullet rifle.
Any idea where to get load data, form dies, full length dies, and cartridge history?
PLEASE HELP!

I would be curious to know if it was intended to be shot with fixed ammo or breech seated bullets. I don't guess it came with a breech seating tool?

There ra eat least two previous article in the Fouling Shot on the cartridge.
If I remember correctly there was also an article in Handloader on the cartridge.

It was meant as a breech seat rifle, but widow knows nothing of guns and dies, brass, breech seater were not found (I suspect they were discarded.)

These cartridges may look small, but be very cautious using them... Never underestimate the power of the Schwartz.

And, they're very good for self-defense. When facing evil, use the Schwartz!

Due to another Schwartz owner's kindness I have a dozen cases; have bullets and have made a breech seater.
Fireformed two cases today and am intending to find an accurate load on Saturday.

I'll post results along with load data.

Only able to get to a 50 yard range.
Most accurate load so far:
180 Gr Spire Point plain base 20 to 1 cast lead
Breech Seated
Federal 210 Primer
11.3 Gr H108 ball powder
foam wad in neck to keep powder in case
best 5 shot group
.950" wide by .495:" high

I just got a copy of "The Modern Schuetzen Rifle" by Charlie Dell and Wayne Schwartz (interlibrary loan from the Library of Congress no less) and it has a couple loads listed. Take them with a grain of salt, I have no frame of reference to even guess if they are safe.

180 grain bullet with 8.2 grains of H110
205 grain bullet with 12.5 grains of 4227

Interestingly, Schwartz writes that he designed the cartridge with the intention of using fixed ammunition but "never got around to it".
