I've just acquired a 1960 vintage Model 94 in 30-30. I have other levers in .356 winchester, .444 marlin, etc. that are all good for most anything loaded with my own cast lead bullets. We are apparently building up a hog problem in Michigan here. Our DNR has issued an edict(sp) that states any kind of hunting license you have is good enought to shoot wild pigs with, and there's no closed season. With as nice as this model 94 handles, I think it will hunt quite a bit.
My question is, will my 160-170 grain cast bullet loads be sufficient for pigs, or will I have to go to a premium bullet like a Barnes. I really wanted to invest in one of the 30-30 ranch dog moulds for this rifle.
What do you think?
tnx ahd,

You didn't say how high you had them loaded, but the answere is yes - a 160 or 170 gr cast bullet in a 30-30 is plenty for hog hunting. Assuming these are hard cast bullets.

If it was me I'd find a box of winchester 170 gr silvertips and go a huntin'. The 30-30 is the gun that my brother and father use for hunting deer in pa. Nothing slicker than a pre 64' model 94.
