Hello everyone,
* * I've had the chance to shoot my rebarreled GP-100 at last. Results were mostly good, with a couple of oddities. The first oddity is that the front sight is not quite straight any more - it's so close it's hard to be sure, but after two days at the range I'm positive it cants a little to the left. I'm guessing the barrel is screwed in just a smidge past center (it has a rib on top into which the sight dovetails) .
* * The other weird thing is that the cylinder did not want to close or turn after I fired the fifth cylinder full and ejected the rounds. It was very stiff, and once I got it closed I could only draw the hammer back while twisting the cylinder with my other hand. I did some careful manipulation (um, I fiddled with it a while) and it eventually loosened back up so I continued shooting. I can only guess that a bit of debris bound up the innards temporarily.
* * The good news is that the barrel didn't foul to speak of, either with cast bullets or jacketed. My groups were decent but not spectacular. I did fire 50 rounds at one target and ended up with a big ragged hole 3.5" across at 25 yds. I thought that was OK, but I didn't fire any 1" groups. Oh well, a fellow needs to have a goal.
* * * * I read Dan's post about the Smith & Wesson service and I must admit to some jealousy! I paid the freight one way, waited six weeks, and got back a dinged up gun with the barrel screwed on crooked. I guess that's why the S&W costs twice as much! *Well, at least maybe I can get the rascal to shoot now. * * * * * * * * IDShooter
