My brother just had a bunch of old slides put on a CD. My family lived in Anchorage for about a year, 1970-1971. Dad went out several times to try and get a bear on his own. He finally took the only guided trip of his life to get one. He was not particulary fond of or proud of the experience. The guide flew them up the beach until they saw this bear, they landed, got out of the plane and my Dad shot it. I don't even think that is legal anymore.

Well, congrats on the bear kill, anyway.

Think you're right - some of the Alaskans can correct if wrong, but believe you have to wait until the next day after flying in prior to legal hunting.

Ken,

He sure looks happy in the picture, even though he missed the challenge of the hunt. That is a better picture of him than of the bear!

I don't know about the airplane thing, but I've seen several new Alaska hunting shows where folks cruise up and down the coast and spot a bear and then go shoot it.

They base in larger ships and use small craft to hunt the beaches.

I'm from the northeast and I heard that in maine they still trap them. There the only state to allow this. Many tried to pass a law against it but the sports people killed it. I never could see trapping a bear and then shooting it like a cow in a milking parler.

A Sako Finnbear in .338. The Corp of Engineers moved us to Alaska. When we found a place to live it was an apartment without a place to hook up a washer and dryer. One of my dad's coworkers needed a washer and dryer and traded the rifle for it. :)

My brother has it now, sweet rifle, I deer hunted with it a couple years when I was a teenager.
