View Full Version : Ruger 22
I bought a Ruger Single Six with a manufacture date of 1973 today.
Ohhhhh boy! I’m happy with this tack driver.
It came with a 22lr/short and 22 mag cylinders.
Still in the factory cosmo. The guy had 3 of them. He bought them in the 70’s and only fired one of them.
I fired about 100 rounds thru it in my basement range and I just couldn’t be any happier.
I was able to hold a 1-inch pattern at 20 feet.
Who would of thought so much fun could come out of this little peashooter.
This is the first 22 pistol I have owned and I am glad it crossed my path.
I love the walnut grips.

Nice little Ruger! I am glad that you like it. Someday I would like to have a Single-Six myself.

That's awesome!
I love my semi-autos, but revolvers are just so darn fun to shoot.

These otter be everyone's "first handgun"!
Yours is the first year of production for the "New Model". A "Paco Kelly's Accurizer" will help a Single Six to be even MORE of a "tack driver"!

One of the Single Sixes and a Bearcat and I would have every one of Rugers' models of .22.
I really enjoy shooting .22s... They're dirt cheap and for the most part very accurate.

My first .22 handgun was a S&W Semi Auto and it is a nice little gun. I also have a Single Six. Both are fun guns to shoot. I have a lady friend that likes to go shooting every once in a while (I have been encouraging her towards the shooting sports). Her favorite gun is that single six. No recoil to speak of and it doesn't jam on her like a semi auto does (I still have to teach her to lock her wrist when shooting semi autos)

I have an old model single six 22lr/22 Mag. I enjoy it a lot and it is my carry gun when trapping beavers. This may sound silly but, and I stress that I do this carefully, I practice a lot with the 22 lr cylinder fast instinctive shooting at very close range. I use small 2" blocks of wood and just toss them out in front of me about 10 feet or a little more. The object is to fire from the hip and demolish that block correcting as it goes flying across the ground until the cylinder is empty. Obviously be in a safe area for this. You will be amazed how after a few packs of bulk bullets your hand and thumb will get extremely fast at working the hammer, correcting and making fair hits. It's fun. I do not quick draw or fan. It is just fun to shoot that way. This gun fits well to do it with if you do not think this a foolish game. It makes Elmer smile I think. The practice payed off one day for me but that should be another story.
