Why was this moved to Ex-military rifles and cartridges?
I was under the opinion that the M16 and AK47 where still being used as the front line weapons system for both our troops and our enemies?

One round on the paper at 200 yards .... makes me wonder if they even bothered to sight it in. Over the years I had three AK's, two Russian and one Romanian. All three were more than capable of putting every round into a man size target at 200m. Far from being pin-point accurate but good enough for government work. Agreed the peep sight usually gives a little easier sighting view but the open iron sights on the Mosin's and Mauser's managed to make a lot of kills for more than a century. I take notice the video omitted the abuse and reliability tests.... LOL

BTW, I found one more thing interesting. When they showed the fire selctor switch they also didn't note that the AK allows you to set it on full auto yet only fire one round at a time if you so choose, eliminates having to flip the switch to full auto if you need to put some steel down range in a hurry, just hold onto the trigger and go.

Military firearms posts are routinely routed to this forum as this is where all such were envisioned to be.

Maybe to eliminate confusion, this section could be renamed to Military Rifles & Cartridges (http://www.shootersforum.com/forumdisplay.htm?f=74)?

I agree there were some odd things going on with the video.
It was just a very small clip of what was a 60-minute show.
I have a couple of Bushmasters and Romanian AK’s.
After sighting in they are very accurate and reliable.
What I thought was interesting was the amount of barrel whip occurring in the AK.
You would think that the amount of whip would become much worse after heating it up.
As for the penetration test, I have 3/8 inch steal targets I shoot with both AK and AR15.
The AK just knocks the paint off. Not even a dent,
The AR15 with Q3131 will blow a hole clean thru it out to 50 yards.
That’s 3/8 inch hardened steel. Penetration is relative I think.
The indentations or partial penetration are from my Bushmaster A3 with 16-inch barrel. Q3131 ammo at 50 yards.
The holes are from my Bushmaster A2 with 20-inch barrel at the same distance and same ammo.
If you look closely you can see the splatter from my AK with Wolf FMJ at 50 yards. Not even a dent.
On the back of the plate where the A3 hit is a bulge where the rounds almost broke thru the plate.

Bottom line for me is they both are very effective weapons systems as there time in service has proven.

I`ve got a little time under my belt where the Colt was my primary weapon and I would still choose it over the AK to this day. I loved my rifle and my rifle was always there for me, get it? Clean the bolt and the gas tube every 5 or 6 hundred rounds if you can and use just enough oil on reassembly to leave a slightly wet fingerprint and it will not fail you. I can also group 30 rounds within the area of a 3lb coffee can lid at 300 yds from the prone position using an ACOG and the reset trigger. Sweet machine in my opinion.

Not knocking the AK by any means but the difference between these guns is on par with driving an American vehicle versus an East Bloc product. They both do essentially the same thing, but......... :D
