Hi,
I am wondering if anyone knows wether the serial number on a Win Mod 94 is located inside the gun anywhere?,This gun is so worn that I cannot read it. My dad gave this to me over 30yrs ago and it's condition wasn't great then. I'm trying to find the SN and would like to see if it's a pre-64 version...
Any help would be appreciated. :)

It should be on the lower tang, under the lever. On some of the very early models, it may be on the upper tang. I have never heard that they had inside numbers, being stamped as being on the line. Give me serial when found (all but the last four digits) and I'll see if I can give you the year.
Also welcome, I'm also a newbie here. Good place to be. I have been watching a while before signing up. Got tired of the other forums where there is much fighting back and forth.

Conway the serial numbers on the Winchester 94s were on the rounded bottom of the receiver just forward of the link. This started from the first one till 1982 when USRAC took over and changed them to the AE models.
Go here: { http://leverguns.sixgunner.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=29280 } and look at the pictorial. By comparing your 94 to these pics you can determine if it's a pre or post 64. You can also see where the serial numbers are located.
There are also methods of pulling up serial numbers that have been obliterated. Most of them are in the hands of law enforcement types, used to find serial numbers removed from guns used in crimes. But since you are the legal owner it's one option.
There may be other options, but I'm not up on them.

Welcome Conway,
Just as Joe said the serial number should be on the bottom of the receiver just back of the fore end stock. If no number is found tell us exactly what is found at that location. Could it be a series of X's or XXWRAXXX ?
Just a possibility
Jim
