I have ordered a 4 5/8" SBH (new) 44 and need/want Hogue rubber grips for it. But...only thing I find is for the 7 1/2" and longer models. What gives? Different grip frames?
Plus, and this is the heavy duty question, anyone tried the 290 bullet in this gun? What would you recommend for 850 to 950 fps?
Also what load for a Thompson/Lyman 429244 in the same velocity range?
Thanks
Don

I have the Hogue Monogrips on my 4-5/8" in .41 magnum. Fits wel and fills the hand. Can't speak to the loads.

The 4 5/8" SBH has the Blackhawk gripframe, not the SBH gripframe.

You sure? I thought at one time it was the SBH gripframe, but just without the knuckle-digging spur.
I've never held them side by side, though.

Yes, if it is indeed a standard factory 4 5/8" SBH, blued or stainless, fluted or not, I'm positive that the gripframe is Blackhawk sized.

I won't argue. Ruger has had so many different combinations of grip frames since the Vaquero came out that I can't keep up anymore.
Thanks for the info.

9.0 grains of Unique with a 290 cast should give about 950 fps. 10.0 grains of Unique will give about 1050 fps in your 4 and 5/8 inch 44 mag with the 255 grain bullet. Thats a good general purpose load that I use in my 44 mags.
