This is a typical 5 pt. I bagged Thanksgiving Day 1977. I was in the hide and was all set to shoot a 3 pt. about 100yds. off , when his ears came up followed by his tail and off he went. Man I was bummed, I could of shot him 20 times but was waiting for a neck shot an he wasn’t having any part of it. Not 10 seconds after the 3 pt left I see his reason for leaving, when the 5 pt comes to that exact same spot. I’m not going to fool with this one, I raise the /06 an when he lowers his head the first time to feed, I let him have a 180 gr. BP high in the neck…No record, just a nice whitetail …

Now this has got to be a record of some sorts. S&W Classic using a Speer 240gr. Half- jacket at 1400fps. I had a good rest ‘hood of the truck’ and two of us stepped it off at 90yds. He was sitting under the shade of a cholla in central AZ…

Great shot on the rabbit with that 29 and that is a nice deer. I sure loved the handgun shooting, but my eyes are going now. It's surprising how accurate one of these 44 mags are with the right loads.

Nice! There are certainly big deer up here, if you can find 'em.

Bob- I hear ya about the eyes. That was from 1989 before I need prescription classes, bifocals… LOL I missed two deer in one year, both broadside shots, using that same combo, both offhand shots at 75-100yrs. I’m going to say the shot on ‘thumper’ was 99.99% pure luck :D …

IDShooter- That deer came from the Hope area, and with the Lighting Creek road now closed for maybe forever, we are going to see more ;) …

Rowdy, that's a beautiful whitetail - a mounter in my book! Congrats. Kind of unique in that his tips turn down. I'd guess you were in the rut?

Thanks Shawn- just a horn mount, not enough dollars then..the rut starts here mid- Nov. so he was big necked by then for sure :)
