I've not shot the semi-autos for many years and to correct that I've recently purchsed a Springfield XD .45, and a Taurus 24/7 .40. Last week while visiting the gun shop, noticed a FNH product and commented that I was not familiar with the brand nor had I seen any articles/advertisements (latest NRA mag. I just got has full page ad). The shop owner said he had just taken the FNH line on and felt they were a quality product, and the FNP-40 was his first item.

I bought it ($465)and am very pleased. The single action (it's a double/single action) is much easier to shoot accurately off-hand (for me, anyway). Synthetic lower and stainless slide, and barrel does not appear to need fire lapping. First 10 shots at 15 yds. were 1 5/8" and next 10 shots at 25 yds. were 2 3/4" with cheap ammo showed good promise. And for me, it shot to point of aim better than the other two pistols.

Anyway, just curious if any of you have experience with the FNH pistol line and what your experience has been?

I purchased the same pistol earlier this year and have been very pleased as well. Did you get the blackened SS upper or the brushed SS finish? I had to pay another $20 for the brushed SS finish but I just really liked the way they looked. My pistol also surprised me accuracy wise. It will shoot inside 2 inches at 25 yards with ammo it likes. Much better than I expected from a "sevice type" of pistol. Another nice plus to the FNPs is the two extra magazines supplied with each gun. All three of my mags were high capacity as well. It is my understanding that FN now owns Browning and these FNPs are virtual clones of the earlier (now discontinued) Browning Pro 9 and Pro 40 models. One other feature I particularly like with the FNPs is the fully supported case head chambers. A real plus especially if one plans on feeding them reloads. I've no desire to experience the "Kaboom" phenomenon which is all to common with pistols not having fully supported chambers. Hope you enjoy your new addition as much as I enjoy mine.

Appreciate the info and did get the brushed SS top. When I Googled for the FNP-40, I found a comment that indicated the FNP-40 was an exact duplicate of the Pro-9, but was not aware FNH owned Browning.....but that's good news as Browning has always been on of my favorite/quality manufacturers. I noticed in the NRA magazine advertisement that they emphasized the FNP-40 was completely American made, which is also nice to hear. I also noticed the advertisement mentioned "replacable slide rails"....hopefully that's available in anticipation of a gazillion rounds usage and not the current rails having more than normal wear.

Anyway, like the size, accuracy and particulary the trigger performance and time will tell about overall quality. One thing that did catch my attention on the FN website was the lack of a .45 ACP model, as that would be my next step.

Dan / One of the websites I checked had a picture of the new FNP45 which they said would be "available soon". They seem to have a bunch of websites but I think it was on fnhusa.com or maybe fnherstal.com..... By the way, I see they also are the owner of Winchester as well as Browning... I doubt you'll have to wait very long for your 45... God bless / Rick

Rick, thanks for the info and I'll tell my gunshop to keep an eye open as I'll definitely try one.

I actually just bought an FNP-40 and me and some friends put about 250 rounds through it right out of the box basically and it was great. The trigger was very smooth and i like it a lot better than some of my others friends handguns. The dealer actually talked me into this gun and it only cost me about $500. So far i am very happy with it, accurate and relyable. All i need now for it is a tactical holster which i am having a hard time finding and a light or laser to put on it. If you know of any good ones let me know.

I got one about 10 months ago with a TLR-2 light and laser pointer. Really great shooter once you get used to the transition between first round double action and then single action. Couple of problems though. Out of the box I had trouble dropping expended magazines although full ones would come out just fine. I had a few conversations with the people that do the service work for FNP USA and they finally decided I should send it to them for repair. They promised a rather long 5 weeks turnaround time but I had to call after about 6 and stir them up. A few weeks later they sent me the weapon back with the same problem. They were sorry and all that saying I could send it back but no improvement on the turnaround time (even though their mistake). The gunsmith that sold it to me chiseled on it awhile and made it work. Kind of disappointing performance from the folks representing the manufacturer of the renowned FN-FAL and Browning Hi-Power. Another problem had to do with magazines. I let a full one fall about 3 feet onto a thick carpet which knocked the bottom piece off and scattered parts and ammo around a bit. Putting the pieces back together didn't work until I discovered there was still a small little tab missing. This took awhile because FN USA considers the exploded parts diagrams proprietary and wouldn't send me one. Another thing they wouldn't send me was the little tab that I couldn't find. I would have to buy another mag at about $40. Yet another thing is that there are no after market mags available as yet. Also, I was able to find a shoulder rig that would fit the pistol and laser pointer but nothing except plain vanilla generics in a side holster. I have been competing (mostly steel shoots) without any more mags breaking and I still like shooting this gun just fine but would hesitate to carry it in the line. OBTW, I would appreciate any info as to who sells holsters for this one. TIA, Mike

Purchased one of these about a month ago to replace a taurus 24/7 that has been back to the factory 3 times and wanted something more reliable, anyone want to buy a like new comp-tac holster for a 24/7? anyway The FNP is top quality and one of my new favorites. For those that have not heard of FN before they do most of their business with the government and make I believe 70% of all small arms for the US military. The FNP is made at the same US factory as the SAW, M4, etc.. Anyway as far as holster selection mine was free as FN has a promotion currently check their web site as I am a new member here and am not sure as to the rules on posting links, if it is allowed I can post a link later. The free holster is a blade tech and I know crossbreed makes a IWB holster, as far as leather I know highnoon and desantis make holsters for the FNP. My FNP-40 also fits like a glove in my brothers sig229 leather.

Would the sig229 fit well in a thigh holster? Particularly I am looking at the BlackHawk Omega VI Airborne Assault Holster, I do not beleive that the sig 229 is available for this one but if anyone looks it up could you help me in finding out which gun would be the closest to the measurements of the FNP-40

I don't have an FNP 40, but I have shot both the .40 and 9mm and thought they were both great shooting guns. If I didn't already have a S&W M&P .40 I would probably buy a FNP.

I DO however own the FN 5.7. And that is one of the best handguns I've ever shot or owned. Low recoil, high capacity, and devastating ballistics. Love the 5.7 x 28 round.
